CAMRA Champion Beer of Britain 2012

In a remarkable turn around from recent years, CAMRA haven’t this year selected a run-of-the-mill real ale as their champion real ale  beer of Britain but Coniston Brewery No9 Barley Wine. A beer brewed once a year and described as ‘Rich in fruit flavours with Marzipan, herbal hoppiness and Cognac overtones finishing with a warming alcohol essence. The residual sweetness is balanced by large amounts of best English Goldings Hops. ‘ What’s more, it’s 8.5%! That should get the anti-alcohol lobby nicely envigorated… Good news indeed for Coniston Brewery as the same beer only managed third overall at the CAMRA Winter [...]

CAMRA Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2012

Driftwood brewery’s (of St Agnes, Cornwall) ‘Alfie’s Revenge’ has been crowned the Supreme Champion Winter Beer of Britain 2012 by a panel of judges at the National Winter Ales Festival in Manchester. The 6.5% ABV old ale is described in CAMRA’s Good Beer Guide 2012 as a ‘strong and fruity, well-balanced premium ale’.
