Brewers’ Research & Education Fund open for 2017 applications A major grants fund that provides funding for scientific research and education in the brewing industry has begun inviting applications for funding in 2017/18 via the BBPA website. Under the Brewers’ Research & Education Fund (BREF), applicants have just under three months to submit their bids, with a deadline for funding applications of 31st March 2017. The BREF supports vital technical research into projects such as improving brewery environmental footprint, dispense hygiene surveys and developing new hop varieties as well as a variety of educational activities. Winners revealed in British Beer & Pub Association Annual Awards 2015 Grain to Glass award winner: Hogs Back Brewery Hogs Back scooped the award for their astonishing new hop garden at the brewery in Tongham, Surrey. The entry showed real innovation and a community focused approach, involving local people, highlighting the integrity of the product, and generating considerable interest in beer and how it is made. New figures show UK alcohol consumption down 2.1 per cent in 2013 The British Beer & Pub Association has compiled data based on HMRC alcohol tax returns, that shows UK alcohol consumption per head fell again in 2013.
